Girls Gaelic Football Update 18th April 2013

U16s have had 2 matches:

vs Moneyglass 9th April lost 6-4 to 1-3

The girls had their first match of the season and after a slow start in the first half they found themselves losing by 4-4 to 0-0 at half-time. However after a spirited display in the second half, where they competed for every ball they scored 1-3 with Moneyglass just shading it 2-1. This was an excellent display in the second half with good scores taken and a lot of pressure on the Moneyglassgoal with a few good scoring chances also missed.

vs Aldergrove 16th April won 6-4 to 0-2
The girls started the match in the same frame of mind they finished the previous week. They competed hard for every ball and soon built up a big lead. With a few older girls missing the younger U14s really stepped up to the plate and not only won ball but also showed great awareness with it. Their confidence on the ball and ability to find a team member was a joy to watch. Although this was a very skilful Aldergrove team the Oisins set themselves a high standard which they will have to live up to over the coming weeks.

Next matches:

  • vs Creggan (away) 23rd April
  • vs Moneyglass (away) 30th April

GoldMark

A chairde,

Did you know that young volunteers within your club can get a recognised award through Ulster GAA and the Dept. of Education?
Ulster GAA is promoting the efforts of young volunteers who help out at their clubs, school teams and county boards through the ‘GoldMark’ Programme.

Run in conjunction with Volunteer Now and the Dept. of Education, GoldMark aims to recognise the volunteering efforts of young people in sport. The Programme requires young volunteers, who are actively involved in the GAA to complete a Volunteer Record book which is signed off by a club official. There are three tiers of awards for the young volunteers, who have to be aged between 14 – 24 years old. The three awards are: 50 hours, 100 hours and 200 hours of excellence.

All the skills developed through volunteering are transferable to the work environment and will help those involved in GoldMark when it comes to applying for jobs, college or university.

Any club interested in getting involved in this programme should contact Ulster GAA GoldMark Co-ordinator Fionntán O’Dowd on 02837517180 or email fionntan.odowd.ulster@gaa.ie
