Antrim County Convention 2012

105 delegates attended (only 1 club was not represented)

The only election was for Ulster Council Delegates – Danny Mc Lernon and Frank Smyth were duly elected.

The following Motions were passed;

General

  • U16 and Minor games will NOT be scheduled during the May – June exam period.
  • All Underage games throughout the County will be played on the day and at the same time.
  • Adult All County Leagues & Championship games will be played on Sundays & Thursdays.
  • A Coaching and Games development committee to be established to include representatives from – Camogie, Ladies Football Cumann na mBunscoil, Second level schools, Handball, Divisional Boards, and County Committee.
  • Players seeking transfers within Antrim MUST obtain the signature (Secretary) of the club they are seeking to join prior to that form being submitted to CCC for approval.

Hurling specific

All County Hurling Leagues have been restructured as follows;

  • Div 1  – 10 teams    to be played home and away
  • Div 2 – 10 teams    to be played home and away
  • Div 3 – 8 teams    to be played home and away
  • Div 4 – 6 teams    to be played home and away

Antrim Hurling Championships

  • All Div 1 teams play Senior Championship
  • All Div 2 team play Intermediate Championship
  • All Div 3 Teams play Junior Championship

A new Junior “B” Championship will be introduced for Div 4 teams with the winners progressing to the Junior Hurling championship.

All county hurling leagues will be introduced, in 2013, at the following age groups

  • U14 (For those clubs who wish to enter)
  • U16 (All clubs)

Football specific

  • The CCC is to endeavour to play Senior and 2nd team games as double headers on as many occasions as possible throughout the All County Football leagues.
  • U 14 and U 16 footballs leagues will be played as divisional leagues with the top 2 in each divisional age group playing off for the County League title.

The following recommendations were carried;

  • Antrim to explore and maximise all opportunities to participate in Leinster Hurling Competitions at all levels.
  • Clubs will not be asked to play a league game in another code 4 days prior to playing a championship game in another code.

( ie playing a football game prior to a Hurling Championship game or vice versa – BUT they can still play a league game in the same code prior to a championship game in the same code

Wednesday 9th May 2012

I láthair/Present:

Niall Wheeler, Hugh McIlwaine, Margaret McToal. Kenny McCormack, Brendan Murray,  Michelle O’Toole, Gerry Cosgrove, Vincent Harvey, Stephen Kelly, Margaret McIlwaine, Sheila Burns &David Burns

The Meeting opened with a silent prayer for Gerry Cosgrove’s father, the late Bobby Cosgrove.

Miontuairiscí/Minutes:

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and adopted, proposed by David Burns and seconded by Hugh McIlwaine.

Ábhair a bhaineann le/Matters Arising:

  • Club’s preferred option is for Girls Gaelic Football group to form a committee although not obligatory.
  • Chairman stressed the importance of players wearing helmets that meet the requirements.

Tuarascail Aontroim Thuaidh/North Antrim Report:

  • Shortage of referees in North Antrim especially for midweek matches.
  • Coaching and Development website has been upgraded.
  • North Antrim Chairman asks club chairmen to address issues with players abusing referees.
  • Moyle District Council arranging a 9 aside Minor Championship in October 2012 

Tuarascáil Chontae/County Report:

  • Regrading of teams discussed for Championship
  • County to formulate a strategic plan for the next five years to update County bylaws.
  • Public Liability costs a concern due to number of claims in individuals clubs.
  • Impressive presentation delivered by Club Aontroma and their planned membership drive took place. Oisín CLG Chairman urged Oisín CLG members to support this venture.
  • Development Squad system not working and being reviewed in Autumn.

Oifigeach Caidrimh Phoiblí/PRO

  • PRO requests results of all matches immediately after games and articles for publishing in Newsletter and press.

Coiste na nÓg/Juvenile Committee:

  • Concerns regarding U12s not playing in U14 matches. Chairman directed Juvenile Committee to raise issues and make decisions.
  • Chairman again stressed the importance of representatives attending General Meetings and asked that Juvenile Committee meet with the Main Committee soon.

Cairde Chleann Airbh/Léas Friends of Glenariffe

After a discussion initiated by The Chairman, it was proposed by Hugh McIlwaine and seconded by Stephen Kelly that Oisín CLG should lease the land required for the erection of the proposed new complex to ‘The Friends of Glenariffe’. This proposal was voted on and carried without dissent. The Chairman expressed his opinion that, as the Directors and members of ‘The Friends of Glenariffe’ were also committed members of Oisín CLG, he was confident that any fears regarding loss of control by Oisín CLG could be allayed and the lease is required as a prerequisite for obtaining funding from outside agencies.

Feis na nGleann/Glens Feis

  • Oisín CLG is proud to be hosting it’s 50th Feis na nGleann’. David Burns is seeking a banner reading this. Mass to celebrate 50th Anniversary to be held on Feis weekend. Chairman to speak to Fr. White.

Clárú/Costas Registration/Costs:

  • Club secretary read the updated figures presented by the club registrar. Proves that a number of members have not yet paid their membership. Chairman voiced his concern that those not registered will not be covered by insurance and in this respect asked that mentors are approached to assist with collecting fees.

Tóirse Oilimpeach/Olympic Torch:

  • Chairman Niall Wheeler and Gerry Cosgrove will attend a meeting on Tuesday 22nd May in The Mariners Bar and will update the club accordingly. Oisín CLG will participate in events with Moyle District Council. Everyone is encouraged to bring picnics with them.

Comhfhreagras/Correspondence:

  • The Chairman read the following correspondence:
    • Email from Sinead Quinn Croke Park explaining that an oversight on her part resulted in Oisín CLG being blamed for not paying Player’s Injury Scheme fee on time. Chairman to voice his disappointment at next County Meeting.
    • Email from Brendan Mulgrew County PRO asking for attendance at open night in Casement Park on 11th May to meet County hurlers and gaelic football players etc.
    • Email from Louise Scullion requesting steward training for Olympic Torch.
    • Email from North Antrim seeking new referees.
    • Email from Cllr. McAllister extending her thanks to Oisín CLG for use of the clubrooms to hold juvenile courses and drumming classes.

Gnó ar bith eile/AOB:

  • Chairman extended his thanks to Randall McDonnell who donated cash, helmets and hurling balls to club.
  • Chris McAuley County Minor Camogie team Manager extended his thanks to Oisín CLG for the use of the clubrooms and pitch for a training session.
